A Celebrity Nail Encounter

Nail art has taken me to some very interesting places and allowed me to meet interesting people, one of who is the lovely Holly, a comic book artist who does School Bites, and is married to Jim Balent of Broadsword Comics.  As luck would have it, I made a couple sets of nails for Holly- one was old-school Star Wars, and the other was a KISS-themed set. She wore them at ComicCon recently and SHE SHOWED THEM TO GENE SIMMONS. He liked them! I’m dying.

By the way, the lower right hand nail is Gene Simmons’ famous tongue, for those of you who might be wondering.

It’s my first known celebrity nail encounter and I’m excited.

Nail school rolls on, I’ve done basic gels and am now getting into the gel art. I do have a few tips to share with you, and I’ll do a gel tutorial, except I do have to say they are really tricky to do at home or on yourself, especially with the DIY kits.  I’m keeping my gel nails on as I experiment with the wear and durability. Hint: Sunscreen can make gel nails very angry, and they’re not fond of nail polish remover, either, even the non-acetone kind.

About nevertoomuchglitter

Nail artist. Wanderer. I'm a color-holic, in fact, it was my love of color that brought me to the nail art world. Well, that, and the fact I was too cheap to pay crazy Japanese prices for nail polish while living in Tokyo, so I had to start mixing my own. That's how NTMG began.

That is so cool, you must have been so excited/thrilled/shocked/flattered! 🙂

Wow! That is so cool! And I can’t wait to see some gel nail tutorials. I’ve been wondering how they work and how they look. Don’t you have to use a UV lamp?

    • nevertoomuchglitter says:

Yup, the gel is painted on and then cured under a UV lamp. Luckily, they seem to have really dropped in price quite a lot.

I realized that was Gene Simmons tongue! Your crazy! That’s so cool that Gene Simmons saw the Kiss nails. Maybe he should add them to the Kiss merchandise. You could do them and make some money & fame!!!

    • nevertoomuchglitter says:

Yay Lucy! I’m glad you realized what it was, I realized after painting it that is was kind of strange. The nails may be going up on the KISS website under the fan art, which should be a lot of fun.

Gene is such a marketing genius and interested in Kiss being on everything. You should try to present these to him in some presentation that they could be reproduced like on the SH nail polish strips – something that is new as I am sure somewhere along the years he has had press on Kiss nails presented to him before.

    • nevertoomuchglitter says:

Yeah, there’s KISS everything! He owns all his own trademarks, though, and I just realized I technically probably infringed on his copyrights- luckily he understood they were just a tribute for a big fan. 🙂 They have a big fan art page on the KISS website, so I think they do have a good sense of humor.

These are amazing, I love Kiss. I love doing nail art too but I’m only a beginner and nowhere near as good as you! Do you sell a lot of nails on Etsy? Although they’re beautiful I never imagined there being a big market for them x

    • nevertoomuchglitter says:

Thanks Lorna- glad you liked them! I’ve just passed 1200 sales on Etsy- it has been challenging at times but I’ve learned a lot.
