Some of My Recent Nail Art

I’m sorry for being neglectful- with everything going on, life has been pretty busy. I’m flying out in about 3 weeks and the big day is at the end of October. I still don’t know what to do for my nails. At least my shoes are blingy enough to distract everyone if my nails are (gasp) bare!

Despite my wacky nail art, I’m not really girly and frou-frou but for some reason, I’ve had Marie Antoinette on the brain lately. (A subconscious association with the guillotine? Yikes! I hope not!) It’s probably from looking at endless cakes and frilly cocktail napkiny things.

Here’s some Marie-inspired nail art I’ve done recently.

I think Marie would have had pretty faaabulous nails, if nail art had been invented in her day. I mean, this woman made her hair into a clipper ship, right?

And here’s some gruesome Marie ones!

I’ve also been working on my gradations and making some gothic-inspired florals:

My 3-D roses still need a little work, but I like the overall effect for a Halloween party or cosplay:

Nail school has almost come to a close, and it’s been a really good learning experience. I can’t get a visa to work in a nail salon, and I’m not sure that’s really what I want to be doing anyway. I think I’d rather go into creating nail art for magazine shoots and fashion shows. That being said, there’s a lot of pressure in the fashion world and it’s really hard work to take someone’s vision and put it on nails. But I really enjoy nails as an kind of expression and an art form, and poo poo to anyone who says it’s not “real” art. Yes, I’ll be the first to admit that even some of my own nail art is tacky as heck! But wouldn’t it be a boring world if we didn’t embrace a little off-the-wall tackiness now and again? 😛

About nevertoomuchglitter

Nail artist. Wanderer. I'm a color-holic, in fact, it was my love of color that brought me to the nail art world. Well, that, and the fact I was too cheap to pay crazy Japanese prices for nail polish while living in Tokyo, so I had to start mixing my own. That's how NTMG began.

Oehhh those gothic inspired nails are gorgeous!!

  2. I’m impressed! I especially liked the roses. For the wedding I would do something simple, because there is too much else to think about and remember before and on that day. I mean something that is easy and fast to do, that you know will look good.

Wow! Some of the white ones look like my child visions of what my best ever wedding cake should look like! I am with Lani above in doing simple nails for wedding. I would hate to see something detailed like these have parts fall off during the days events. Maybe these would be better for some good, wild wedding shower when one can be over the top crazy. I certainly see your channeling of Marie Antoinette in the white ones! I have been running into one blogger that I found via Pinterest who is doing nothing but taking runway deigns and doing nail art inspired by the fashions…not at all what one would do most of the time for runway or fashion shoots but fun non the less to look at. I think whatever you get into from your nail tech license will be good experience to build on. Get your name with your skill out there to local movie companies. Ya never know what they will land – one day it’s a fashion shoot – another day it’s just a local something – next month it’s a feature film!

The pink nails are so me! I am probably the girliest girl that you will ever meet. Good luck with your nail art + fashion idea. I can really see something like that being in vogue.

Can you teach me how to do the nail art? They are fabulous and awesome.
