MAC Bad Fairy Franken

I really wanted to get one of the polishes from MAC’s recent Venemous Villians collection but wasn’t waiting online or lined up outside the store so I missed out. The color was Bad Fairy, a sort of duochrome russet color with sparkles. There were two other polishes in the collection but they were very close to some of the Orly Cosmics I already own. I understand that some things are limited edition, but it seems to me they deliberately make it hard to get.

So here’s my franken, which gets a thumbs down because it required a super old discontinued polish (Sally Hansen Nail Prism in Amber Ruby- russet base with yellow duochrom flash), OPI Man of La Mancha (sheer russet base with russet microglitter) and MAC Reflects Rust glitter.  I mixed the polishes together in a half/half ratio and then added one pea-sized spoonful of glitter.

The actual polish looks different in every swatch photo I see, so I had to use some imagination. I was satisfied enough with my franken that I don’t feel the need to get the real thing. It would have been nice, but I’m not paying Ebay prices for it.  I’m in the same color family at least!

Ignore the smudge- I just wanted to show the yellow/gold duochrome.

But…we’re close to Halloween. Non-scary nails are not an option. So I checked out some of my polymer clay canes that came in the batch with Michael Jackson. I was not disappointed.

Behold….Zombie Minnie Mouse?!

This thing is nightmare fuel, pure and simple.  The ears look like gaping shark mouths, and the pupil-less zombie eyes and grinning maw…aaaarhhh! Make it stop. This horrible thing reminds me of the old comic strip Nancy…anyone remember that? If Nancy was attacked by undead Mousketeer zombies, this would be the result. Even looking at it kinda gives me the creeps.

So of course it was the finishing touch to my manicure!

Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Nail artist. Wanderer. I'm a color-holic, in fact, it was my love of color that brought me to the nail art world. Well, that, and the fact I was too cheap to pay crazy Japanese prices for nail polish while living in Tokyo, so I had to start mixing my own. That's how NTMG began.

There is actually a dupe for Bad fairy from OPI in the new Burlesque collection that just came out. I believe the color is The Show Must Go On. I think it is very similar.

colorwise it looks pretty accurate. only the mac one has similar fleck particles like orly cosmic collection, but other than that, this looks pretty awesome! =)

Cool! Thanks. I couldn’t get those flecks right- I think it’s some kind of very fine holographic plastic. I do love the Orly Cosmix so at least I don’t feel too bad about the MAC.

This looks really nice! I don’t think it’s an exact dupe, but from the photos I’ve seen, I like your franken better. 🙂

  4. The OPI and the MAC aren’t really dupes, but if you can get the OPI, you’ll be close.
I love your franken. It’s a very close match to Bad Fairy.

I couldn’t get that polish either. Love this and the little scary pieces. It does look like zombie Nancy! I loved Nancy and used to have her comic books. I’m looking forward to other Halloween themed nails.

I wanted Bad Fairy too, but after looking at some swatches I got kind of disappointed, because I think that some of the main blogs used a base color under bad fairy that made it look real awesome, but Bad Fairy alone didn’t convince me . I am happy I escaped this one.
I really like your franken much better!

Hey! Accessorize in the UK has a really good dupe of bad fairy. I still owe you one for your help with the gradation liquid 😉
