Well, I have a couple more greens for you, but I wanted to show you some awesome Japanese nail art I’ve collected from various salon photos:
A hibiscus, ice cream cone, bow, shooting star and Hello Kitty, plus glitter and rhinestones? Wow. This is like the epitome of Japanese cute style, all in one place.
Disney themed nails with a giant bow. Hello Kitty is much easier to draw, it seems.
Giant plastic roses, jewels chain, rhinestones and glitter.
For the happiest toes on the block! Actually, fake toenails creep me out. I don’t know why. I saw some really long, pink and white French ones, and I nearly fainted. They looked like Fritos and the woman must have had to wear sandals all the time.
Above images: One Love Nail Salon, Tokyo.
Rawr! Airbrushed zebra and bling-bling gold chain. I bet Mr. T’s wife would love these. Fantemille Nail Salon, Tokyo.
This is the sort of “paved nail” style that’s been popular for a while here- the entire nail surface is covered in rhinestones or sculpture.
Rainbow fish scales.
Wow. Gray roses, glitterbomb, rhinestones, pearls and a dangly bit. Words almost fail me at this one.
More “fish scales” with gradation and flowers. The salon must have run out of jewels after the photo above!
This one looks pretty ordinary at first, until I noticed the money signs made of gold baubles. Candy+ hearts+ stars+ money = happy face? I think they should have done a Yen symbol ¥ since this is Japan and all, but still an interesting mani.
Salon Pico, Tokyo.
And here’s a couple of awesome flash galleries for you to look at. Just click on the photos for larger ones:

I tried to make some of my own wacky Japanese nail art, though I probably wouldn’t wear it regularly. I made these for the lovely Brooke at Getcha Nails Did. She has a cute chihuahua named Dinky who is a total princess, so I did a Dinky-themed set for her featuring dog bones, a tiara, some pawprints, and lots of glitter.
I think I have a way to go before the Japanese nail salons have competition, but these were fun to make.
I love the Hello Kitty nail. I am new to the site and I think it’s awesome. I just checked out your store and I love Dark Secret! How did you make that?
Hi there! Thanks for your nice comment! Dark Secret is a black jelly with red glitter and I added some red confetti flakes to it. If you want a similar look but without the mixing, try China Glaze Lubu Heels. You can also mix red glitter nail polish with black polish. The iridescent red confetti is wicked hard to find outside of Japan.
That kind of nail art from Japan is breath taking. I can’t believe how people can do that, it’s amazing!
Your designs are very cool too! I like that you chose a pet theme for them, it’s so cute!
Thanks Alexlydra! I had fun making those nails- there’s a lot of creativity involved. 🙂
OMG those are the cutest nails dog tips you made! Your talent and creativity never ceases to amaze me. I’d love to see your take on the fish scales pattern…
Love your blog, it’s my favorite nail blog, by far. Keep up the fantastic work, it’s so inspirational!
Aww, thanks Andrea! I really appreciate it. I’ll be doing a koi-themed nail art soon, but not sure if it will look quite as good as the fish scales. Thanks for reading!
I love the airbrushed Zebra stripes and LOL on Mr. T’s wife!!
The nails you made for Brooke rock! They are gorgeous! NICE!! You are so sweet and thoughtful!! ❤
:c)
Thanks Laine! 🙂
Thank you for more Japanese nail art pictures. They are amazing! I have to agree with you about the fake toenails.. wow, they seem creepy. Even though the ones you posted here were very cute.
Awesome job on the Dinky nails. I’m sure she will love them ^^
Magnolia- Thanks! I hope Brooke will like them- it’s my first attempt! It’s actually harder than I thought- there’s some real artistry in these nails. Most of the sets posted here would be around $150 US, but they take 2 or 3 hours by an experienced artist.
Hi Jen, thanks for all the nail art. I love to look at it. It just amazes me what is put on nails. I love the fish scales. They are absolutely beautiful. I love the Disney theme nails and also the animal print. The toenails make me want to gag! How adorable are those nails for Brooke. They are pure genius. I love the little paw prints. I can’t wait for her to wear them. You are the sweetest person.
Hi Lucy! Thank you! I am sure Dinky knows she’s a princess already, but I just couldn’t resist the little tiaras. 🙂
Everyone loves Japanese nail art because it’s so wacky, but there are so few sites in English about it. Unless you can read Japanese, it’s hard to find the best authentic Japanese nails. I may get a set before I leave Japan for good, but 3 inch nails are not really my style. Still, it seems like an interesting experience.
Omg those fish scale ones are creepy! I love Japanese nail art, the crazy paved ones are my favorite I’ve started collecting the magazine scans for more inspiration though. Those Dinky nails for Brooke are super cute! You are so nice for making them!
The Dinky nails are rocking my world!! I have to get some of those reusuable nail tabs, I have been itching to wear them, but I don’t want to glue them on!!
