Liquid Sunshine

It’s been raining endlessly in Japan, so here’s a glittery canary yellow to lift my spirits a little:

I made this one with some yellow eyeshadow (MAC Chrome Yellow- what on earth was I thinking?!) in a base of white pearl nail polish.  The color was a little streaky, as most yellows tend to be, and kind of sheer.  Sheer yellow makes my nails looks diseased and sort of fungal.

So I added some more yellow shadow and some yellow glitter. The finish is smooth after two coats of dolla-store topcoat. My usual topcoat, Seche Vite,  has turned into a sort of Jello-ish mess and needs to be thinned, but I don’t have the special thinner.  I’m headed back the US next week, so I’ll be sure to pick up about 3 bottles of thinner then!

I hope everyone is having some nice summer fun!

Nail artist. Wanderer. I'm a color-holic, in fact, it was my love of color that brought me to the nail art world. Well, that, and the fact I was too cheap to pay crazy Japanese prices for nail polish while living in Tokyo, so I had to start mixing my own. That's how NTMG began.

I feel ya with the need for something bright in rainy weather! I love that yellow! I have some yellow eyeshadow too and when I wear it I feel kind of fungal….lol! Gotta have some color in our lives though!!! Cool you’re visiting the US. Do you have a shopping list made up? I’d like to go to Japan and get some gradation liquid. And maybe visit some stuff, but mostly for the gradation liquid. Have a great trip!

      Hi Kaybee,
I definitely have my shopping list and I bought a bunch of stuff online and had it delivered to my parent’s house. It’s starting to look like a post office there! LOL about the gradation liquid!

That’s a beautiful glittery yellow. Can’t blame you for mixing up some sunshine.! Love this shade. Isn’t it a pain that only Seche thinner will work. Hope you have a safe journey back to the states. Can you bring any polish back to Japan with you?

    • nevertoomuchglitter says:

Lucy- glad you liked it! I’m puzzled about the Seche thinner, but I guess have no choice but to pick some up. I always bring back tons of polish to Japan (usually so much my boyfriend has to take some on with his carry on!)

That looks so nice on you!

Love that yellow franken! Question: I saw the clear full nail sets you use to make color samples or try out frankens on your older posts. Do you know where I could get some of those in the states?

    • nevertoomuchglitter says:

      Hi there Rachie,
The ones I use are probably only sold in Japan since they’re so darn small but you can find nail wheels and boards at http://www.transdesign.com under Nail Art Display. I’ve always had a pretty good experience with them and they sell lots of pro goodies.

      • Rachie30 says:

Ok, thanks! I have very small nail beds but i’ll order some and give it a try!

      • nevertoomuchglitter says:

Oh, Rachie, did you mean you were going to WEAR them? I thought you meant you were going to use them or color swatching or testing out frankens. Don’t order those nail wheels from Transdesign as they’re for display only, not for actual wear.

The ones I use for color charts and frankens like you saw are actually for wearing. If your nails are small, these are really good.
        Shameless store pitch: http://www.nevertoomuchglitter.etsy.com
is where I sell the small nails. I am sure I can send a few blanks if you want, or I can make any color or design on them.

I just found your blog a couple of weeks ago and now I’m constantly looking through older posts. I’m lovin this yellow! I have hands that are ghostly white just like yours and normally colors I try only make it worse, but many of your posts have given me some great ideas!

Glad you’re enjoying the blog! Some colors don’t work on us pale ladies, but others rock. I did find that I could pull off a lot more colors when my nails were fairly short. Long nails plus pale hands can look a little witchy- or at least it did on me!

  7. Sarah-Anne says:

I totally agree about the long nails, they end up looking completely witchy and short nails do make it possible to pull off more colors.

    Woah! This one’s so cool!

Ok, great! I will have a look and will probably get some from your etsy store. :) You can find these anywhere in the US.
